A Frozen Hurricane & More
Here are some simple ways to add a flavor twist to a few traditional drinks. Use ice cubes made with orange soda in an Old Fashioned. Add several large splashes of lemonade to a Bloody Mary and try this crushed pineapple version of a Hurricane.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces White rum
  • 1 ounce Dark rum
  • 1/2 ounce Grenadine
  • 1 ounces Orange juice
  • 2 ounces Pineapple juice
  • 3 ounces Cranberry juice
  • As desired Crushed pineapple
  • For serving - Fine crushed ice

Directions:

  1. Combine all of the rum and juice in a blender along with your selection of fruit. Mix for a few seconds.
  2. Take a quick sip to see if you have achieved the proper taste bud level for your hurricane.
  3. If everything is okay, as far as fruit and rum are concerned, add ice to the blender a few pieces at a time until you have the thickness. If you prefer over ice then a great addition is a splash of soda water or even lemon lime juice.
  4. It does not matter which version you choose. Be sure to top your over ice hurricane or your frozen version with some of the same fruit you decided to toss in the blender. Nothing beats adding an extra touch.

QUICK TIP
Unless you are a beverage history major don't stress out on particulars with this version of a hurricane. One thing everyone should keep in mind when working on many recipes is that it comes down to your own taste buds. And what you have available in your own kitchen pantry. Who knows, you may invent the next big thing!

While the most traditional of Hurricane Drinks are served over ice, this version is actually a frozen version. Also, Bacardi 151 Proof Rum can be substituted for one ounce of the white rum. You can also choose a variety of flavored tropical style rums. This always makes for a fun hurricane while traditionalist may shy away from flavored rums. Adding crushed pineapple, mango, strawberry, and even crushed oranges, is a great way to get extra flavor as well as add fruit smoothie style texture.

This is not your parents hurricane. But, if needed, skip the blender, chop the citrus fruit into chunks and serve over ice cubes.
